I joined back up with Jess in Ludlow on Sunday having dropped Dad off at Inverness airport at 6am. Jess had spent the past four days painting Miranda's new house. We witnessed a surreal light in the genteel town of Ludlow on Monday morning - apparently the result of Sahara dust and Iberian forest fires with Hurricane Ophelia.
We walked for a couple of hours south of the town, in the autumn sunshine - through Whitcliffe Common and up towards Overton.

The afternoon was spent wandering around the immaculately restored Stokesay Castle, a medieval fortified Manor House built in the 13th century.
We departed Ludlow on Wednesday morning to North Wales, via my old prep school Abberley Hall, and lunch & wander in Shrewsbury
